CLINTON — Ralph Y. Thomson, age 83, of Clinton, died Sunday, March 2, 2008, at the Eagle Point Nursing Home in Clinton. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at the Pape Funeral Home in Clinton. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery with military rites by the AMVETS. Casket bearers will be his grandchildren. Ralph was born on July 6, 1924, in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, the son of John and Ruth Donaldson Thomson. Ralph graduated from Lyons High School in 1943. He served with the U.S. Navy during W.W. II on the escort carrier USS Ommaney Bay as a Yeoman 2nd class in the Pacific Theater. Ralph married Shirley Lamont in St. Patrick’s Church, Clinton, on September 2, 1950. Ralph served with Clinton Fire Department Local 609 for 29 years, retiring in 1986. Ralph also owned and operated Clinton Roofing and Gutters. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and wood carving. Ralph is survived by his wife, Shirley; seven children, Jim, Janet, Mark, Greg, Barbra, Paul and Donna; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Venita; and a sister-in-law, Bessie Thomson. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Clinton Fire Department Local 609. Death date: March 2, 2008
