CLINTON — Ferne E. Roode, age 80, of Clinton, died Sunday Feb. 17, 2008, at the Alverno. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 21st, at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Michael Holm will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the Pape Funeral Home and from 10:00 A.M. until the service time Thursday at the church. Burial will be at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Matt Fullerton, Jerry Wheeler, Dan Reed, Tom Neubauer, Roger Gammon and Jim Ehrhart. Ferne was born on November 24, 1927, in Sterling, Illinois, to Lawrence P. and Ruby Wiles LeFevre. She graduated from Sterling High School in 1945 and from Jane Lamb School of Nursing in 1949. Ferne married Donald Roode on July 16, 1950, in Sterling. As a registered nurse, Ferne worked 17 years in the delivery room at Jane Lamb Hospital before working at Clinton Manor and the Alverno. She was a member of the D.A.R. and Trinity Lutheran Church where she was active in Bible study, Ladies Aid Society and Eventide Guild. Ferne enjoyed baking, gardening, feeding the birds in her back yard and her grandchildren. Ferne is survived by her husband of 57 years, Don; two sons, Joel (Sally) Roode of Hampton, Iowa, and Mark (Karen) Roode of Low Moor; her five grandchildren, Michael, Kristin, Brian, all of Hampton, Matthew of Houston, Texas, and Luke of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; her brother, Lawrence W. (Marion) LeFevre of Higginsville, MO; and nephews, Lance LeFevre of Lee Summit, Missouri; Dr. Michael LeFevre, Columbia, Missouri; and one niece, Dr. Carla LeFevre of Greensboro, North Carolina. Ferne was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Jennifer Roode. Memorials may be made to Lutheran Family Service of Iowa (formerly known as Lutheran Home Finding Society), The Alverno Health Care Facility or Trinity Lutheran Church Radio Ministry.
