AUSTIN, Texas — Sandra Lou (Kroymann) Slayden, 49, of Austin, Texas passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family and friends on February 13, 2008. Sandy passed away after a courageous battle with breast cancer that lasted almost 8 1⁄2 years. Sandy was born in Kankakee, IL September 8, 1958 to Helen Lorenzen Lauritzen and the late Lou Donald Kroymann. She grew up in Clinton, Iowa and graduated from Clinton High School in 1976. She then studied at Moline Public Hospital in Moline, IL graduating with her Surgical Tech degree.She married Jamie Slayden November 28, 1981. She became the wonderful mother of Colt Jeffrey Slayden, 22 years of age. She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. In the fall of 1999, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. For the next 8 1⁄2, she would battle her disease without complaint, in spite of innumerable doctor visits, surgeries, courses of radiation, undergoing tests, and taking multiple chemotherapy medications that made her so ill. No matter how harsh the therapy or how many treatment failures she had, she kept on battling. We are continuing to grant her wishes by having her body donated to science; Life Legacy in Tucson, AZ.A memorial service will take place on Saturday, February 16, 2008, at Beck Funeral Home Chapel of Round Rock, Texas, at 2:00 p.m. A private memorial service will be held at a later date in Clinton, Iowa.Survivors include her husband, Jamie; son, Colt; and dog, Lucy Lou. Four brothers, Dave Kroymann (Sandy) of Low Moor, IA, Jim Kroymann (Robin) of Clinton, IA, Steve Kroymann (Angie) of Omaha, NE and Dan Kroymann (Jennifer) of Olathe, KS.. Two sisters, Dorinda Kroymann-Moens (Dave) and Angie Shepherd (Kevin) of Phoenix, AZ... Also step-brother, Jay Lauritzen (Joan) of Clinton, IA, and (step-sister) Sara Crigger (Troy) of Camanche, IA. Several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.She was preceded in death by her father, by her sister, Pamela Naeve, niece, Jennifer Kroymann, mother-in-law, Melva Slayden, brother-in-law, Jeff Slayden, and her grandparents.In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Jamie Slayden to aide the extensive medical cost in the battle against cancer, 9506 Chapel Down St., Austin, Texas 78729.
