The Clinton Herald Thursday January 21, 1897 p. 5 Mary C. Griswold, wife of Hon. George A. Griswold, of Almont, died at her home on Saturday, Jan. 17th, in the 70th year of her age. She removed to Iowa with her parents from St. Thomas, Canada, in 1848, and for the past 47 years had resided in Elk River township. As one of the old settlers in Clinton county, she had taken an interest in all the gatherings of pioneers, till her health prevented her from taking an active part in their annual meetings. Her husband George A. Griswold, the president of the Territorial and State Pioneers of Clinton county, and two children, are left to mourn their great loss, while hosts of sympathizing friends share with them in their bereavement.
