FULTON, Ill. — Edward Meurs, 89, Fulton, died Thursday, February 7, 2008, at his home. The funeral will be 11:00 AM Saturday, February 9, 2008, at the Second Reformed Church, Fulton, Ill. The Rev. Scott Stephan, pastor, Second Reformed Church, Fulton; the Rev. Len Meinema, pastor, Bethel Christian Reformed Church, Fulton; and Ed’s grandson, pastor Dan Wierenga, pastor of Garden Plain Presbyterian Church, Fulton, will co-officiate. Visitation is from 10:00 AM Saturday, February 9, 2008, until the time of funeral service at the church. Fulton Chapel – Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison, with a private family graveside service Saturday, February 9, 2008. Memorials can be made to Unity Christian School, Fulton, Ill. He was born July 6, 1918, in Winnie, Texas, to Elmer and Nellie (Verhoef) Meurs. He was educated in Long Island, Kansas, schools. He married Lena Post on January 18, 1939, in Ocheyedan, IA. She survives. Ed engaged in farming until 1946. He then was employed by I.C.A. in Morrison, IL. Later he was employed by General Electric – Morrison, IL for 31 years, retiring in 1981. He was a former member of the Morrison Christian Reformed Church, First Christian Reformed Church, Fulton, IL, and a charter member of the Bethel Christian Reformed Church – Fulton, IL. Ed was an elder and Sunday School teacher at Bethel Christian Reformed Church and served as chairman of the church’s building committee when the church was constructed in 1967. Ed was a current member of Second Reformed Church – Fulton, IL. He served on the Unity Christian School Board for 6 years and the Harbor Crest Nursing Home Board of Directors for 25 years. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Nancy (Ronald) Shear, Fulton, IL, Lois (Ronald) Vogel, Fulton, IL, Betty (Harlan) Wiebenga, Fulton, IL; a son, E. Wayne (Carol) Meurs, Fulton, IL; 12 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; four brothers, Henry Meurs, of Fulton, IL, Clarence (Alfretta) Meurs, Morrison, IL, Raymond (Alva) Meurs, Fulton, IL, Wayne (Lois) Meurs, Canon City, CO.
