DEWITT — Mrs. Lillian E. Hanssen, 98, DeWitt, Iowa, died Wednesday morning, January 30, 2008, at Wheatland Manor, Wheatland, Iowa. Mrs. Hanssen was born Lillian Elizabeth Potter, October 26, 1909, in Brookfield Township, Iowa, to Robert Franklin and Elizabeth Ruth (Bloore) Potter. She married Clarence Hanssen, March 8, 1930, at the Congregational Church Parsonage in DeWitt. Lillian was a homemaker but also assisted her husband, doing secretarial work for his business dealings. She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, DeWitt. Lillian loved her family dearly. “Grandma Hanssie” was an A-#1 cookie baker. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Ralph Jansen, DeWitt; grandsons, Kevin (Jane) Jansen and Scott (Jennifer) Jansen, DeWitt; great-grandchildren, Christopher, Kaytlyn, Kaytlinn, Keeley, Brandon and William. Lillian was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence, on November 30, 1998; her parents, a granddaughter, Michelle, a brother, Paul Potter, and two sisters, Gladys Wait and Grace Ballhorn. The family will receive friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 9:00 until 10:45 a.m. Friday, February 1, 2008. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Jeff Wartgow will officiate. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt. Memorials are suggested to First Congregational UCC, DeWitt Volunteer Fire Department, Inc. and Wheatland Manor. Pallbearers will be Bob Potter, Jerry Judd, Christopher Jansen, Kaytlyn Jansen, Brandon Jansen and Kaytlinn Duesing. Death date: Jan. 30, 2008
