The Clinton Herald Monday October 5, 1891 p. 3 On Sunday morning at 8:45, the tired spirit of Mrs. Catherine Carew winged its flight to Him who gave it on high, surrounded by a loving son and daughter whose only aim had always been to make the declining years of her life as cheerful as possible. An attack of la grippe last winter resulted in a complication of diseases which, with heart failure, severed the fragile cord here on earth of the soul from the tenement of clay, only to enter into that home in Heaven for which she has always prayed and believed was awaiting her. Catherine Hanley was born in Ireland, July 4th, 1829, coming to America when but 15 years of age to a brother then residing in Boston, Mass. She lived there some little time, but afterwards removed to brattleboro, Vermont, where she remained until her marriage to Edmond Carew in 1849. They came west soon after and located in Fulton, Ill., then scarcely a village, in which place - with the exception of the past seven years, which she had lived in Clinton - she had continuously lived, in Whiteside county. In 1871 she was left a widow by the drowing of her husband. She leaves to mourn her loss a son, and three daughters, Mrs. P. Behan, Mrs. J.H. Stevens, and Gertie and Edward. The funeral services will be held at St. Patrick's church Tuesday at 2 p.m., with interment in the Fulton Catholic cemetery. Her last words to the dear ones gathered around were "Peace, peace." So we say also, Requieseat in pace.
