CLINTON — Ardis A.L. (Roeder) Kieffer, age 97, formerly of Clinton, died Monday Jan. 21, 2008, at the Maquoketa Care Center, Maquoketa, IA. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. on Friday January 25, 2008, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Preston, IA. Visitation will be held Thursday 4 to 7 p.m. at the church. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Preston. Casket bearers will be Mark Hammond, Brad, Tim and Joel Burken, Terry and Gene Kieffer. Honorary casket bearers will be, in his memory, Paul Burken, and her granddaughters, Ann, Margie, Marcie, Karen, Sheila, Della, Mary and Annette.Memorials may be made to the family.Ardis was born on March 27, 1910, in Jackson County, IA, to Theo and Olivia (Weinshank) Roeder. She graduated from Preston High School in 1928 and received her teaching certificate in 1930 in Cedar Falls, IA.She married Raymond Kieffer on Feb. 28, 1932, in Springbrook, IA, who died in 1949. She was a school teacher in rural Jackson County for 15 years then moved to Clinton in 1962 where she owned and operated apartment houses. She also worked at Beez Mousel where she retired after 26 years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Preston and enjoyed reminiscing of her teaching days, sewing and crocheting.Ardis is survived by her son, Glen (Joan) Kieffer of Preston; two daughters, Mrs. Gloria Hammond of Delmar and Mrs. Darla (Leroy) Burken of Goose Lake; 14 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 6 stepgreat-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Lester Roeder of Spragueville, IA; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five brothers, three sisters, a grandson and son-in-law.Death date: Jan. 21, 2008#
