A shadow of grief was cast over the community last week by the death of Joseph Detterman, one of our old and highly respected residents. He was born in Hanover, Germany, August, 10, 1840, and died Mar. 16, 1911, at the age of 69 years, 7 months and 6 days. Mr. Detterman came to this country with his parents, when but a small boy, the family locating at Galena, Ill. From there they moved to Lyons where they lived for a number of years. At the age of twenty-five, Mr. Detterman was united in marriage to Miss Katherine Borman who is still living. Mr. and Mrs. Detterman were residents of Clinton county finally moving to Preston where they have since lived. He was survived by two boys and seven girls, thirty-three grand children and three great grandchildren, three brothers and two sisters, three half sisters and six half brothers. Funeral services were held on Monday, March 20th at St. Joseph church. The floral tributes were numerous and beautiful.
