FULTON, Ill. — LaVerta M. Balk, 80, of 1320 4th Avenue, Fulton, IL, died Saturday, December 15, 2007, at Trinity at Terrace Park, Bettendorf, IA. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 21, 2007, at the Fulton Chapel Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Merchant, pastor of Trinity Reformed Church in Fulton, IL, officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 20, 2007, at the Fulton Chapel Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Interment will be in Fulton Township Cemetery, Fulton, IL. Memorials may be made to Trinity Reformed Church, Fulton, IL, and the charity of the donor’s choice. She was born May 17, 1927, in Clinton, IA, to Henry and Katherine (DeWeerdt) Borgman.She was educated in Fulton grade schools.She married Leroy J. Balk on April 22, 1948, in Fulton, IL. He survives. Prior to marriage, she was employed by Rich’s Toy Factory, Clinton, IA. Following her marriage, she farmed with her husband, Leroy, in Garden Plain Township where she lived until 2004. She was a member of Trinity Reformed Church, Fulton, IL, and the church’s Priscilla Circle. Her ministry was one of service by baking and cooking for friends and neighbors who were going through trials. She enjoyed encouraging others through sending cards and notes to family, friends and neighbors. She also enjoyed baking and cooking for neighbors and those who worked around the farm. LaVerta deeply loved her children and grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them as well as attending their activities. Survivors include her husband, Leroy; one daughter, Brenda (Danny) Lipes of Bettendorf, IA; one son, Lavern (Sandra) Balk of Milan, IL; six grandchildren, Aaron, Kyle, Adam and Megan Balk; Jason Lipes and Julie Lipes; and two sisters, Evelyn (Ray) Damhoff of Fulton, IL, and Donna (Gary) Dykstra of Fulton, IL.
