Reynolds, Gertrude Mary

Gertrude Mary Reynolds, 88, formerly of Welton, Iowa died on Sunday, October 21, 2007 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa. Family and friends may visit Nelson Funeral Home, DeWitt, Iowa from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, October 26th, 2007. A prayer service will be held by Sister Theresa Ann Spitz at 7 pm. Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2007 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Welton, Iowa with Reverend H. Robert Harness to preside. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in DeWitt, Iowa. Pallbearers will be Matthew and John Reynolds, Michael, Rob and Brian Dwyer and Tom Adams.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be designated to St. Joseph's School, DeWitt, Iowa.

Gertrude Bender was born in rural Clinton County on November 29th, 1918 the daughter of Adam and Aileen (Hand) Bender. She was a 1936 graduate of St. Joseph's High School. Gertrude was employed for the federal government as Welton's postmaster for 29 years retiring on December 1, 1990. Gertrude married Al Reynolds on August 16th, 1951 at St. Joseph's Church in DeWitt. He died on April 12th, 1973. She enjoyed her grandchildren and the time she was able to spend with them. She enjoyed her work at the Post Office and all the daily visitors that knew her as “Gertie.”

Her survivors include; two sons, William Reynolds and his wife Barb, Kansas City, Missouri and Robert Reynolds and his wife, Joan, DeWitt, Iowa. Grandchildren are Amy Reynolds, San Antonio, Texas; Matthew, John and Ellen Reynolds, DeWitt, Iowa. A special niece, Jeanne (Paul) Dwyer, Waukee, Iowa. Two sister-in-laws; LaVonne (Ray) Adams, DeWitt, Iowa and Janice Reynolds, Bettendorf, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death was her parents, husband, infant brother, two sisters; Lucille Scott and Veronica Scanlon, and an infant granddaughter, Anne Kathleen Reynolds.
