The Clinton Herald Monday August 16, 1954 p. 11 Roscoe W. Armstrong, 76, operator of the C.E. Armstrong and Sons Hardware firm, died late Saturday evening at his home in Camanche following an extended illness. The body reposes at the Snell funeral home, where friends may call after 7 p.m. Tuesday. At noon Wednesday it will be taken to the Armstrong residence for funeral services at 1:30 p.m. Dr. Bruce McCullough will officiate. Cremation will be held in Davenport immediately afterward. Burial will be in Springdale cemetery at a later date. Mr. Armstrong was born Feb. 2, 1878, in Clinton, the son of Charles Emerson and Ida Whalen Armstrong. He had resided here most of his life, moving to Camanche 10 years ago. He was associated with C.E. Armstrong and Sons since becoming a partner 40 years ago in the firm which was founded by his father. A graduate of Yale university in 1902, he was a member of First Presbyterian church, where he once served as an elder, and the Clinton Country club. He had been prominent in civic activities and was an active sportsman. His wife, the former Ruby Stone whom he married Oct. 7, 1907, in Clinton, preceded him in death in December 1951. A son, Roscoe W. Armstrong, Jr., died in 1918. Surviving are a son, Kenneth S. Armstrong, Clinton, also with the firm; a daughter, Mrs. C.S. (Katherine) Wright, Clinton, and four grandchildren.
