SERVICES: 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Michael Wey, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Savanna, officiating.
SAVANNA, Ill. — Dorothy Elisabeth Norton, 84, of Savanna, died Monday at Wyndcrest Nursing Home, Clinton.
Burial will be in Wyoming Township Cemetery.
She was born Nov. 15, 1921, near Maquoketa to William and Rosa Mortensen Zirkelbach. She married Harvey Norton on June 1, 1942, at First Reformed Church, Maquoketa.
She attended country school in rural Maquoketa. She graduated from Maquoketa High School in 1938. She also attended junior college.
She taught in New Castle country schools for two years. She also worked 10 years as an assistant librarian with Savanna Public Library and did substitute teaching in the area.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Savanna, Presbyterian Women’s Club; Wednesday Study Club, Palisades Art League, UNI Club and Palisades Ladies Golf League. She also was a troop leader for the American Girl Scouts and was a sponsor for the senior high youth group and Antiques Club.
Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Candace Davis of Des Moines; one brother, John Zirkelbach of Clinton; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
