Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Ascension Lutheran Church, Goose Lake. Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, is in charge of arrangements.

SERVICES: 11 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Caroline Engelbrecht officiating.

DEWITT — Esther R. Christensen, 84, of DeWitt and formerly of Goose Lake, died Thursday at Westwing Place, DeWitt.

Burial will be in the Lost Nation Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jeff, Wayne and Eric Hogenson, Scott Souder, Travis and Tyler Davisson, Robert Wilhoit, Andrew Christensen, Bryce and Lucas Kelley, Julie Lundin, Erin Zane, Elizabeth Christensen, Keri and Kaci Wilhoit, Meryl and Vernetta Rathje, Betty and Russell Paulsen, Alberta Young, Edith Rickertsen, Dorothy Camp, Bernice Unruh and members of the Sarah Circle.

She was born Aug. 27, 1922, in Lost Nation to Edward R. and Anna Andreson Schultz. She married Robert L. Christensen on Jan. 29, 1944, at Bethleham Lutheran Church, Lost Nation. She and her husband lived in Goose Lake prior to moving to DeWitt a few years ago.

She graduated from Lost Nation High School.

She was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church, Goose Lake, where she was active with ladies Bible studies and the Sarah Circle.

Survivors include her husband; one son, Duane (Sandra) Christensen of Altoona; daughters, JoAnn (Don) Hogenson of Bettendorf, Jill (Kevin) Davisson of Grand Mound, Jane (Jim) Zane of Donnellson, Rebecca (Ron) Wilhoit of Troy, Mo., and Bobbi (Steve) Kelley of DeWitt; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Vivian Mowry of Amana.

Memorials may be made to Ascension Lutheran Church or the Lost Nation Cemetery Association.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one sister and one grandchild.
