Doris H. Hofmann-Harris, 69, of Clinton

Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. today at Lemke Funeral Homes, North Chapel, 2304 N. Second St.

SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Boniface Church, Jesus Christ Prince of Peace Parish, 2520 Pershing Blvd.

CLINTON — Doris H. Hofmann-Harris, 69, of Clinton, died Saturday at Mercy Medical Center–Clinton.

Burial will be in Garrett Cemetery, Delta.

She was born April 13, 1937, in Hirschaid, Germany, to Andreas Hofmann and Magdalena Reichert Hofmann. She married Willis J. Harris on May 3, 1963, in Pirmasens, Germany. He died in 1983.

She went to high school in Hirschaid. She went to Bamberg for three years and spent two years at the University of Bavaria studying child psychology. She also attended Georgia Tech, where she studied business, languages and math.

She was chief executive officer of Clinton County Special Athletes. She also volunteered for the United Way, Mercy Auxiliary for 32 years, Prince of Peace Parish and the Moose.

She was a member of the Association of Retarded Citizens. She held the commissioner position of the board for the City of Clinton Human Rights Commission. She volunteered for the Clinton County Community Center for Special Athletes, the German American Club and the German Heritage Club of the Quad-Cities. She also was a previous member of the German Shepherd Kennel Club of the Quad-Cities and was a case manager for Red Cross disaster relief. In 1994, she was inducted into the Iowa Volunteer Hall of Fame.

Survivors include a daughter, Gabriele (Donald) Welch Jr. of Camanche; three granddaughters; a sister, Philomena Koerk of Hirschaid, Germany; and a brother, Erwin (Gerda) Hofmann of Roebersdorf, Germany.

In lieu of flowers, memorial can be given to Clinton County Special Athletes.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three brothers.
