The Clinton Herald Monday December 7, 1953 p. 15 Mrs. Frederick H. Van Allen, 76, of 844 5th Ave. S., died at 8:35 a.m. today in Jane Lamb hospital after being in failing health for a long period. Her husband is president of the John D. Van Allen & Son store, and her son, John B., is vice-president. The body reposes at the Braggonier-Fay chapel where friends may call beginning Tuesday afternoon. Funeral services will be conducted there at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday by Dr. Bruce McCullough, pastor of First Presbyterian church. Private services will be held at graveside in Springdale cemetery. The former Carlota Bevier, daughter of the late William J. and Jennie S. Bevier, was born June 4, 1877, in Clinton. She attended local schools, followed by a year abroad. Her marriage to Frederick Holmes Van Allen took place here Oct. 3, 1906. Although her chief interests were centered around her home and family, Mrs. Van Allen had served as past chairman of the Clinton county Christmas Seal campaign and past director of Clinton county chapter, American Red Cross. She was a member of the P.E.O. sisterhood, chapter J.M., the Onawa club and a former member of the Agatha hospital auxiliary. Surviving are her husband; a son, John B. of Clinton; a daughter, Mrs. George A. (Jane) Speer, Frederick, Md., and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
