Evelyn A. Small

Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Carson and Son Funeral and Cremation Services, Maquoketa.

SERVICES: 11 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church, Maquoketa, with the Rev. Gerald Gjerde officiating.

BERNARD — Evelyn A. Small, 81, of Bernard, died Sunday at the Maquoketa Care Center.

Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa.

She was born Oct. 18, 1924, in Jackson County to George Otto and Adele Helena Agatha Bartels Scheibe. She married Leslie Ernest “Ernie” Small on March 25, 1945, in Maquoketa. He died in 1986.

She was a 1942 graduate of Maquoketa High School.

She was a bookkeeper at Buckhorn Creamery prior to her marriage. She also was a homemaker and helped her husband on the family farm south of Bernard.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church, Maquoketa, the North Garryowen Senior Citizen Card Club and the Town and Country Card Club.

Survivors include her children, Edward (Carol) Small of Bernard, Janice (Paul) Ruggeberg of Maquoketa and Phyllis (William “Bill”) Turnis, James Small and Richard “Rick” (Tammie) Small, all of Bernard; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one brother, Donald (Vera) Scheibe of Maquoketa.

An Evelyn A. Small Memorial Fund has been established.
