TRUCK COMPANY HEAD HERE DIES - Detlef Carstensen Funeral Service Tomorrow Afternoon

Detlef Carstensen, 646 Fifth avenue South, owner and operator of the Carstensen Transfer company, died yesterday at 5:30 p.m. in Jane Lamb hospital where he had been taken several hours before. He had been recovering satisfactorily from an illness suffered in December, when he was stricken seriously ill yesterday afternoon.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 3 p.m. in St. Paul’s Lutheran church, preceded by a prayer service at 2:30 in the Snell funeral home, where the body reposes. The rev. Maurice E. Lesher will officiate and military rites at the grave will be conducted by June Van Meter post 190, American Legion. The U.C.T. auxiliary will meet tonight at 7:30 p.m.in the funeral home to pay their respects.

He is survived by his wife; five children, David, Jack, Dick, James and Judy at home; three brothers, Arthur Carstensen of Folletts, Chris Carstensen of Watertown, S.D., and Harry Carstensen of Camanche and four sisters, Mrs. Elsie Stamp, Mrs. Leo McNulty and Miss Jennie Carstensen, all of Clinton, and Miss Dora Carstensen of Camanche.

Mr. Carstensen was born Dec 6, 1893, in Clinton, son of Henry and Dorthea Carstensen. June 18, 1929, he married Olivia Nelson. For 25 years he had operated the Carstensen transfer company here, and at the time of his death he was president of the Iowa Warehousemen’s association. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran church; Western Star lodge, 100, A.F & A.M.; DeMolay Consistory of Scottish Rite bodies; June Van Meter post, American Legion, the Clinton Turner society and the United Commercial Travelers. He was a past president of the Gyro club and a member and past director of the Clinton Chamber of Commerce.

A veteran of World War I, Mr. Carstensen entered service May 27, 1918, went overseas in August 1918, served a short time in France, and returned to the United States in May the following year. His parents, two brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

Detlef C. Carstensen: Funeral services for Detlef C. Carstensen were held this afternoon in St. Paul’s English Lutheran church, with the Rev. Maurice E. Lesher officiating. Military rites at the grave were conducted by June Van Meter post, American Legion, assisted by Clinton county chapter, V.F.W., and Lyons Ex-Servicemen’s association. Burial was in Springdale cemetery.

Pallbearers were Emil Johannsen, Walter Wagner, Harold and Marvin Ugarph, Clarence Reed, Fred Koch, I.H. Carnes and Marvin Matthiesen. Out of town relatives and friends who attended the service included Chris Carstensen of Watertown, S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. Franklin R. Overmyer, Percy Metzger, Mrs. Chris Petersen and Mrs. William Pester, all of Chicago, Ill; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Schick, Mr. And Mrs. Arthur Schick, Mr. and Mrs. William Bump, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Lorenzen, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Micheel, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Micheel, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Pursell, Charles Hinckle, Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Werthmann and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Werthmann, all of Davenport, and Mr. and Mrs. Mallicoat and Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Jacobsen of Rock Island, Ill.
