William “Bill” A. Schreiner

Visitation: 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna.

SERVICES: 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Bridges, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, Savanna, officiating.

FULTON, Ill. — William “Bill” A. Schreiner, 68, of Fulton, died Sunday at Harbor Crest Nursing Home, Fulton.

Burial will be in the Rock Island (Ill.) Arsenal National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Friday.

He was born May 28, 1938, in Savanna to Raymond and Hilda Flowers Schreiner.

He graduated from Savanna High School in 1956. He received an Associate of Science degree from the State Technical Institute, Memphis, Tenn.

He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Savanna.

He served in the U.S. Navy. While in the military, he served as an aviation machinist’s mate. He achieved the rank of chief petty officer. His sailed on the USS Hornet. He was awarded the National Defense Service, Vietnam Service (one star), Vietnam Campaign (1960) and good conduct medals (five awards).

After retiring from the military, he opened a small engine repair shop in Savanna. He also sold military life insurance.

Survivors include four sons, William Schreiner Jr. of Hawaii, Eddie Schreiner of Tennessee, Sy Schreiner of Alabama and Jerry Schreiner; four daughters, Virginia Schreiner of Hawaii, Tammy Schreiner of Hawaii, Terri Schreiner of Hawaii and Misty Schreiner, of Alabama; several grandchildren; one brother, Lyle (Debbie) Schreiner of McAlester, Okla.; one sister, Dorothy (Ron Nemec) Hartman of Savanna; his stepmother, Eileen M. Schreiner of McAlester; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and on sister.
