SERVICES: 2 p.m. Saturday at the Unitarian Universalist Church, Clinton, with coffee and fellowship afterward in the church’s lower level. The Clinton Chapel of the Snell-Zornig Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

CLINTON — Betty Porter Farley, 88, of Clinton, died Monday at Mercy North Hospital.

Private burial of cremains will be in the Indianola City Cemetery.

She was born on Dec. 13, 1917, in Buffalo Center to George W. and Lillian Anderson Porter. She married Bruce S. Farley on Feb. 26, 1938, in Princeton, Mo.

She was an active member of the community and participated in many organizations. She was one of the original organizers of the Clinton Symphony Orchestra. She was a charter member, founder and on the board of the Unitarian Universalist Church, Clinton. She was involved in the organization of one of the first preschools in Clinton at the YWCA and was a lifetime member of the National Education Association. She also was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma sorority.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Marycrest College.

She taught first grade at Baldwin and Elijah Buell elementary schools for 28 years.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Erik (Jacquie) Farley of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and Michael (Kathy) Farley of Lake Bluff, Ill.; one daughter, Mrs. Annalisa (Greg) Benner of Louisville, Ky.; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Clinton Symphony Orchestra or Unitarian Universalist Church, Clinton.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters.
