Clinton Daily Age - May 5, 1891
For the Daily Age– The writer notices under the head of the Lyons column, “The old Exchange Building near the river is being torn down to make room for a blast furnace for the foundry. The Exchange is one of the oldest buildings in Lyons, having been built in 1848.” I remember attending a Fourth of July ball in the same building in 1850 and in 1851, and dancing with young ladies who now reside in this city, some of the grandmas’ at the present day, also again in fall of 1852, when the hotel was kept by Henry Kreim; Esq. now of California. The memory runs back to the names of many who attended those parties, and I ask myself where is this one or that one, by echo says gone, gone, gone.
