The bridge company at Clinton, it is said, refuses to allow the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy R. R. to effect a crossing across their structure. This, if persisted in, will necessitate the construction of another bridge at Clinton. In fact, an organization to effect such a purpose has already been formed. - Telegraph Herald

The railroad bridge at Clinton was built before any law regarding bridges across the Mississippi was passed by Congress. Of course, that bridge is under the inclusive control of the company owning it. This company refuses its use to the new road building from Mendota by the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy road. Active steps are therefore being taken for building a new bridge at that point. The new bridge is intended to accommodate the Iowa, Southwestern and Chicago, Clinton and Dubuque railroad, both of which have trains running next season. – Anamosa Eureka

A NEW BRIDGE- A company has been formed in Clinton for the purpose of constructing a railroad and highway bridge across the Mississippi River at that point. It appears that the owners of the Clinton bridge are willing that the C. B. & Q. cars should cross the bridge but the Northwestern road refuses its permission, except upon certain conditions which the C. B. & Q. cannot except. Even if the Northwestern did give a reluctant consent, it is not probable that both companies would long use the road in harmony. The C. B. & Q. Company is determined not to stand shivering on the brink, but will take an independent step and build a bridge for itself.A bridge company has been organized, and is ready to go ahead soon, as a charter can be obtained from Congress. The people of Clinton are quite enthusiastic on the subject, and expect that the prosperity of their city will be materially aided by the construction of the purposed bridge. – Fulton Journal.
