A Sad Accident
Miss Maud Eckhard Killed by Northwestern Train

Miss Maude Eckhard, a young lady aged 18 years, was run down by a Northwestern freight on the Midland line at 6 o'clock Wednesday evening and was instantly killed.

The fatal accident occurred at a point two miles north of Delmar. Miss Eckhard had been to Maquoketa and was returning home in a carriage. At the crossing the horse that she was driving became frightened at a train on the Milwaukee road and started to run. She passed in front of the C. M. & St. P. train, but the horse carried her in front of the Northwestern freight as it was at the crossing. The vehicle was caught exactly on the track and was demolished. The young lady was thrown several feet.
