Last Will and Testament of Adams W. Platt

Friday, June 10th 1859

I, Adams W. Platt of the City of Clinton and State of Iowa being of sound mind and memory and being fully conscious that my life on earth will soon draw to a close, and wishing to settle and dispose of my business and property according to my own desires do make, publish and declare this to be my last will and testament in manner following that is to say.

First I give and bequeath unto my dear and beloved wife, Sarah Platt all my estate, both real and personal of every name and nature whatsoever that I may now own or may hereafter become possess of excepting the sum of eight dollars that I give and bequeath to my children to be equally divided between as follows:
To my daughter Jane E. Lewis, I give and bequeath one dollar.
To my daughter Margarett A. Mxxxxxxx, I give and bequeath one dollar.
To my daughter Harriett B. Stone, I give and bequeath one dollar.
To my daughter Sarah L. Lovejoy, I give and bequeath one dollar.
To my daughter Helen I. Platt, I give and bequeath one dollar.
To my daughter Anna M. Platt, I give and bequeath one dollar.
To my daughter Stella J. Platt, I give and bequeath one dollar.
And lastly I do hereby nominate and appropriate my Wife Sarah Platt, and my Son in Law George F. Lovejoy to be the executrix and executor of my last will and testament.

In witness whereof, I have set my hand and seal at Clinton, Iowa this the Thirteenth day of April AD 1859.

The above and within written instruments on one sheet of paper, was at the date thereof signed sealed published and declared by the said Adams W. Platt, as his last will and testament, in presence of us, who at his request and in his presence and in the presence of each other have subscribed our names thereof as attesting witnesses.

I Loring Wheeler, Exxxxxx county clerk in and for said County hereby certify that the foregoing instrument was this day duly proven in open court to be the last will and testament of Adams W. Platt by Frederick P. Wilcose and George W. Johnson the subscribing witnesses thereto. Given under my hand and seal of the county court at DeWitt this 10 day of June 1859
