Last Will and Testament of William M. Burk

I William M. Burk of Washington Township Clinton County and State of Iowa being of sound and disposing mind do make publish and declare this to be my last will and testament.

I direct that my land in Cra(w)ford County State of Iowa consisting of one hundred and sixty acres at my death or as soon after as desired by the devisers shall be divided between my following children namely my son James Burk, my daughter Mary McDonnald, my son William T. Burk and my son Peter E. C. Burk.

To my wife Bridget Burk I will a life interest to own and to hold during her lifetime the homestead consisting of one hundred and sixty acres of land with all of the property thereto attached laying in Washington Township Clinton County and State of Iowa.

I also will to my wife Bridget Burk all of my personal property on said homestead after my wife’s death the said homestead with the personal property remaining shall be equally divided between the remainder of my children namely Margarett Burk, Kate Burk, Frances P. Burk, John I. Burk, Agnes Burk and Michael A. Burk. I further will that the rent of my farm in Cra(w)ford County State of Iowa shall revert to my wife Bridget Burk until such times as said Cra(w)ford County farm is divided among my children as above named. I further will and appoint as my executor John Troy of DeWitt Township, Clinton County State of Iowa.

I certify that the foregoing last will and testament of William M. Burk was signed in my presence by him and witnessed and signed by the witnesses whose names are hereto attached this 12th day of April 1886.

I William Kreim, clerk of the District Court in and for said County do hereby certify that on this day at the January Term A. D. 1888 of said Court the will and instrument in writing hereunto annexed and bearing date in the 12th day of April 1886 was duly proved before and allowed by said court as and for the last will and testament of the real and personal estate of William M. Burk late of said County deceased and was by said Court ordered to be recorded as such will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto at my hand and affixed the seal of the court at my office in Clinton in said County this 25th day of Feb’y A. D. 1889.
