Last Will and Testament of George Slaughter

In the name of God Amen;
I George Slaughter of Camanche Township Clinton County Iowa being of sound mind and memory and understanding, but knowing the uncertainty of human life do make publish and declare this to be my last will and testament hereby revoking all such instruments by me heretofore made.

I - It is my will that all my just debts and my funeral expenses be first paid.

II -I hereby give and bequeath to my beloved wife Mitty Ann Slaughter one half (1/2) of all my property both real and personal to be used occupied and enjoyed by her her heirs and assigns for and during her naturral life, and at and after her death the same to decend to my son Jarred Slaughter.

III- I hereby give and bequeath to my son Jarred Slaughter before named the other remaining one half (1/2) of all my property both real and personal. It is hereby understood by me and I hereby give notice that this bequest does not include certain property which my said wife owns in her own right but which is under my custody and control and which I do not desire to make any disposition of but leave her to control the same as she may choose and which said property is as follows to wit: Two milk cows and three calves also one Sorrel mare called Nell which said specified personal property my said wife has paid for with her own money and of right owns and

IV -I hereby declare it to be my will and intention that the household and kitchen furniture including beds and bedding are not to be divided between my said wife and my said son but that she shall own the same for and during her natural life and at her death the same to decend to my said son Jarred.

V - I hereby nominate my beloved wife Mitty Ann Slaughter my executrix of this my last will and testament. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this the eighth day of April in the year of our lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy five.

I H. W. Smith of Camanche City Clinton County Iowa and I A. T. Anthony of same City County and State do hereby certify that on the 8th day of April A. D. 1875 George Slaughter in the presence of each of us signed the foregoing instrument and then and there declared the same to be his last will and testament and at his insistance and request we did in the presence of each other and in his presence affix our names hereto as attesting witnesses.

I William Kreim, clerk of the District Court in and for said County do hereby certify that on this day at the January Term A. D. 1889 of said Court the will and instrument in writing hereunto annexed and bearing date in the 8th day of April 1875 was duly proved before and allowed by said court as and for the last will and testament of the real and personal estate of George Slaughter late of said County deceased and was by said Court ordered to be recorded as such will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto at my hand and affixed the seal of the court at my office in Clinton in said County this 11th day of March A. D. 1889.
