Last Will and Testament of Anton Burken
In the name of God Amen;
I Anton Burken of the Township of Clinton, Clinton County Iowa being of the age of Sixty years and of sound and disposing mind and memory do make publish and declare the following as and for my last will and testament.

First – I direct that all my just debts if any I shall have including those of my last sickness and funeral shall be first paid out of the assets of my estate.

Second – I give and bequeath unto my son Hubert in addition to the share of my estate as hereinafter specified the sum of Four Hundred dollars and the Buckskin colored colt named “Bill” purchased of George Smith.

Third – I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth the sum of Two Hundred dollars.

Fourth – I give and bequeath unto my beloved children Margaret, Hubert, Elizabeth, Katrina, John Anton and Maria Josephine all the rest and residue of my estate share and share alike.

Fifth – I hereby request my brother William to act in the capacity of guardian of my two minor children Johan Anton and Maria Josephine and I direct that he shall send her to the German Catholic School in Lyons Iowa at least until she shall have received the first communion and longer if necessary to give her a fair education and he shall board her with her sister during said time.

Sixth – I hereby nominate and appoint my brother in law Nicholas Simmons as the Executor of this my last will and testament and I hereby direct that he shall be appointed such executor without being required to give bond.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 19th day of May 1888.

The forgoing instrument consisting of two pages was by the said Anton Burken to us declared to be his last will and testament and we in his presence and by his request and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses thereto. Nicholas Simmons, Clemens A??enmacher

I William Kreim, clerk of the District Court in and for said County do hereby certify that on this day at the Sept Term A. D. 1888 of said Court the will and instrument in writing hereunto annexed and bearing date in the 19th day of May 1888 was duly proved before and allowed by said court as and for the last will and testament of the real and personal estate of Anton Burken late of said County deceased and was by said Court ordered to be recorded as such will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto at my hand and affixed the seal of the court at my office in Clinton in said County this 13th day of Sept. A. D. 1888.
