Last Will and Testament of William Barrick

I William Barrick residing at Delmar Clinton County in the State of Iowa aged sixty six (66) years of sound mind and memory but realizing the uncertainty of life do hereby make publish and declare this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills made by me.
First – I will and direct that all my just claims against my estate be paid.

Second – I will devise and bequeath unto my beloved wife Elizabeth Barrick for and during her natural life all of the personal property that I may die possessed of and remaining after the payment of the claims and charges against my estate and I further will devise and bequeath unto her for and during her natural life all of the real estate I may die seized of and wherever the same may be situated and to have and to hold the said personal property and real estate for her sole use and benefit so long as she may live. This bequest I make in lieu of the distributive share and interest my wife is entitled to in my estate and she must receive and accept the same in lieu of such distributive share and interest therein .

Third – Subject to the life estate and interest of my beloved wife aforesaid, I will devise and bequeath unto my beloved daughter Charlotte Hannah Barrick, One Thousand ($1000.) Dollars which bequest is to remain a lien on my real estate until paid.

Fourth – Subject to the life estate and interest of my beloved wife aforesaid I will devise and bequeath unto my beloved son Samuel S. Barrick Two Thousand ($2000.) Dollars which bequest is to remain a lien on my real estate until paid.

Fifth – Subject to the life estate and interest of my beloved wife aforesaid and to the bequest of one Thousand ($1000.) Dollars to my beloved daughter Charlotte Hannah Barrick and to the bequest of Two Thousand ($2000.) Dollars to my beloved son Samuel S. Barrick, I give devise and bequeath all the rest, residue and remainder of my estate both personal and real to my beloved children William Robert Barrick, Mary Ann Oak, George Walter Barrick, Alfred Barrick, Charlotte Hannah Barrick, and Samuel S. Barrick in equal shares it being my intention that the said bequests to Charlotte Hannah Barrick and Samuel S. Barrick be paid before there is a distribution and division of my estate and then after such payment the balance of my estate be divided equally share and share alike between all of my said children including Charlotte Hannah Barrick and Samuel S. Barrick.

Sixth – I hereby nominate and appoint my beloved son Samuel S. Barrick and my wife Elizabeth Barrick executors of this my last will and testament. Witness my hand this 28th day of May A. D. 1888.

The foregoing instrument was at the date thereof signed in our presence by the said William Barrick and by him declared to be his last will and testament and we at his request subscribed our names hereto as witnesses in his presence and in the presence of each other.

I William Kreim, clerk of the District Court in and for said County do hereby certify that on this day at the Sept. Term A. D. 1888 of said Court the will and instrument in writing hereunto annexed and bearing date in the 28th day of May 1888 was duly proved before and allowed by said court as and for the last will and testament of the real and personal estate of William Barrick late of said County deceased and was by said Court ordered to be recorded as such will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto at my hand and affixed the seal of the court at my office in Clinton in said County this 12th day of Sept. A. D. 1888.
