The Clinton Herald Vol. 38 No. 311 Wednesday October 17, 1906 p. 3 This morning at 8 o'clock the marriage of Miss Marjorie Cosgrove, daughter of Mrs. Maria L. Cosgrove of Davenport, to Mark A. Walsh of Clinton, was celebrated at the cathedral in Davenport. Bishop Davis officiating at the high mass and also performing the ceremony. Owing to the serious illness of Bishop Cosgrove, an uncle of the bride, the event, which had promised to be one of the most splendid ceremonies of years, was a quiet affair, only the immediate relatives received at the home at 1120 Grand avenue where a wedding breakfast was served at 11 o'clock. Fred B. Sharon of Davenport served as master of ceremonies. He was assisted by E.C. Walsh of Clinton, J.W. Walsh of Davenport, Alfred Walsh of Chicago, and Eugene J. Walsh of Norris, Ill., all brothers of the groom. Charles H. Walsh of Burlington served Mr. Mark Walsh as best man. The beautiful cathedral was early thronged with friends of the young couple who unbidden assembled at the church while the splendid choir rendered special musical selections that terminated in the swelling strains of the bridal chorus from "Lohengrin" as Miss Cosgrove entered. She was a most winsome bride in her exquisite gown of cream radium silk enveloped with a sweeping veil. She was attended by Miss Alice Meyer of Sterling, Ill., as bridesmaid. Mr. and Mrs. Walsh left on the 12:37 train on the Rock Island rout for Chicago, Buffalo, Boston, New York City and other eastern points. Eventually they will make their home in Clinton, the place of residence not yet having been decided upon as Mr. Walsh wishes to leave to his bride the pleasure of choosing a home in the city where she will renew old acquaintances and make new ones. Miss Cosgrove is a charming young woman, the center of a coterie of Davenport's most winsome daughters and she will find a sincere welcome in the social circles of Clinton. Mr. Walsh, the second of the six brothers who have made the name of Walsh Bros. known in European as well as Canadian and American financial circles, has been receiving congratulations upon his prospective happy marriage for some weeks. He is unqualifiedly an Iowa man, a graduate of the Clinton public schools and of the law department of the State University of Iowa. He further supplemented a liberal American education by 2 years of foreign travel and study in the Orient with nearly 12 consecutive months in Paris, Berlin, Antwerp and Brussels. He was lately honored by the attorneys of Iowa, having been made a delegate to the national convention at Minneapolis, and later was solicited as a candidate for representative by the democratic party of the second congressional district. Only his most intimate friends knew at the time of his withdrawal form the political field that his nuptials were being planned, and that October was the month decided upon for the wedding.
