Friday’s storm, within 41/2 miles of Charlotte, wrecked Thomas Watt’s barn, killed four mules, blew down his orchard, and did other damage, causing him a loss of between $8,000 and $4,000. Nearby it completely destroyed the house of F. Dowling, blowing him into an adjacent creek, and he remained in the water three hours and nearly perished before he could be rescued.
