The Clinton Age, Clinton, Iowa, January 31, 1879

Married

At the residence of the bride’s parents, by Rev. Wm. Lease, Jan. 29th, 1879, Mr. ?. W. Holmes and Miss Helen C. Patton, youngest daughter of Capt. H. D. Patton.

The wedding was a quiet one, only the relative and intimidate friends being present. The bride was handsomely dressed in a white Swiss dress. Princess orange blossom and white rose buds appeared here and there over the third toilette. The groom appeared in the conventional black. The guests, after congratulations were tendered, sat down to a wedding supper fully equal in every respect to the happy occasion and reflecting great credit on the parties having in charge of the culinary feature of the evening. Quite a large list of present were inspected, among which we noticed an elegant family Bible, set of table cutlery, toilet set, pearl card case, silver cake dish, silver and crystal pickle caster, two silver butter dishes, a fine bronze hanging lamp, ivory dressing set in a satin lined morocco case. Mrs. E. Nagle, sister of the bride, gave a gold band china tea set of 54 pieces, and the office of the First National Bank, of Lyons, employers of the groom, an entire suite of chamber furniture.

The happy couple will not at present take a trip but will at an early date settle down to the realities of married life and housekeeping.

The AGE congratulated Mr. Holmes and his fair lady and wishes them unbounded prosperity.
