The Clinton Age, Clinton, Iowa, January 17, 1879

A roller skating rink has been opened up in Spencer Hall, under the management of Maj. J. Gillaspie, of St. Louis, which promises to be a decided success. it is proposed to introduce gentlemens’ and ladies’ contests, a prize being awarded to the most graceful skater; also fancy dress soirees, ring contests, etc., during the season.
