Prosecuted, Tried and Acquitted – Some years ago Mr. Nathan Keible, of Lyons, was charged with violating the revenue law. Mr. Keible is a gentlemen of intelligence and of good standing among his acquaintances. When first arrested he was brought before the United Sates Commissioner, Walter I. Hayes, Esq., of this city, who, on hearing all the testimony that could be produced, promptly acquitted him. Then followed a series of persecution almost unparalleled. On the one side was a private accuser backed by government officers, with the government to foot the bills; on the other side was the citizen Keible, who fought them all to a successful conclusion for himself.

We understand that the parties who so persistently followed Keible, have done it out of pure cussedness and unmitigated meanness. And yet, as soon as jury could pass upon the facts, Mr. Keibel was again acquitted. Mr. Keibel’s numerous friends here and at Lyons will be pleased to learn that he comes out of the fire unscathed, and with no taint of his garments or filth on his hands.
