Clinton Mirror-May 23, 1854

On Thursday the 18th inst., at the house of T. Crew, in this village, by Rev. D. H. Paul, WILLIAM NEUGENT to MISS HENRIETTA CREW, both of Lyons.

I had the honor of being a guest of this splendid wedding party, and a witness to this ceremony.

I could not help thinking as I took a view of the guests, that I was at one of the fashionable parties I had been accustomed to in the East: eastern people talk about there being no genteel society in the west, but I thought if those individuals had been present, they could not say that they had been accustomed to more fashionable and intelligent parties that that.

After the ceremony was over, and regaling ourselves with dainties, the rest of the evening was spent in social enjoyment: clock struck 12 before it was expected, but we all went home, as we did not wish to be out at unseasonable hours, to run risk of being included with that intemperate class of people who stay up o’nights and talk fustian.
