Meager word in the city has been received of the murder of old Mr. Wessel’s at Tweed’s Grove, New Year’s Eve.

It seems the old man had spent the evening in the saloon of Petersens, which he left at twelve o’clock for home. His son’s family remembers to have heard some shots about that time but concluded it was someone shooting the old year out and the new year in, so heeded them not. Later in the night someone informed the son’s family that the old man was dead and ongoing out found him in the road with two bullet holes in him.

Coroner Michael went upon the Milwaukee last night to investigate, Deputy Sheriff Adams missing the train.

Tweed’s Grove being a small station with no telephone connections and the distance across country with extremely bad roads has made it nearly impossible to for this morning’s issue. The woman who brought the news to the city knew or told little more about it than what is recorded above.
