My studies have turned up the following --

The 1860 US Census shows that, in Charlotte, Waterford Township there lived Miles Lauderbaugh. He was 46 at the time of the census, listed his occupation as farmer and indicated that he was born in Kentucky. His children listed were: John, age 19, born in Indiana; David, 18, born in Iowa; Haezekiah, 15, also born in Iowa; Hannah, (could not decipher age); born in Iowa; Henry, 8, born in Iowa. The value of his real estate was 2400 and personal property 500.

Also in the 1860 Census for Boon Springs, Deep Creek Township: Paul Kruse, age 58, a farmer born in Denmark. His wife, Margaret, age 48, also born in Denmark. Their children (all born in Denmark): Clause, age 24; Frederick, age 22; Peter, couldn't read age; Margaret, also, could not read age.

The book "Clinton County, Iowa", published in 1946, writtten by Estelle LePrevost Youle, includes an interview of Cass Ketelsen, who worked at the Lauer brewery. I do not believe he is a relative, but it is an interesting description of that area of Clinton.

The book "The History of Clinton County", published in 1879 by Western Historical, also includes a write-up of Miles Lauderbaugh, indicating that he was born in Shippingport, Kentucky in 1812. He lived on section 36, and his Post Office address was Charlotte. His first wife was Barsheba Case, whom he married in 1831. They moved to Iowa in 1842. Barsheba died in 1856. The children from this marriage were: Harriet (Mrs. Amasa Gilmore); Sarah (Mrs. E. Milo); Tabitha (Mrs. A.J. Alrbright); Hezekia; Hannah (Mrs. C. Dennis);  William H. In 1862, Miles remarried Miss Emily Rolland. Their children were Mathilda, Elmer, Martha, Eli, Minnie, Menzo, Jennie and Eddie. The write-up indicated that he owned 200 acres of land.

"Wolfe's History of Clinton County": a reference of the city of Goose Lake being settled on section 28, township 83, range 5 on January 5, 1889, on land owned by Peter Kruse, as well as a few other farmers in the area.

"Wolfe's" also includes a reference to Charles Andresen who owned a store in Bryant, later owned by Henry Andresen, page 258.

Also in "Wolfe's: a lengthy section on Claus Kruse. Indicates that he was born near Kiel, Holstein, Germany on 8/20/1835, to parents Paul and Margaret (Schomberger) Kruse. Claus married Cathrina Petersen, who was born in April, 1841, to parents Hans and Cathrina (Neave) Peterson. Their children were Henry, Adolph, Emma (Mrs. Peter Peterson), Lena (Mrs. Paul Martinson), August, Ferdinand, Edward, Johannis, Francis (Mrs. John Ploog) and Alfareida.  Claus' brothers and sister were Joseph, Peter (owned a lumberyard in Goose Lake) and Margaret (Mrs. Peter Hagge).

All these families are connected to Ketelsens, mostly through Dora Ketelsen. She was first married to George Miles Lauderbaugh. They had two children, Emil Hezekia and Leon George. They divorced in 1908. She was remarried to Johannas Kruse in 1911. Johannas adopted her sons, and eventually they moved to Barnes County, North Dakota, in a family that included Edna Ketelsen, the daughter of Dora's brother Sanke.

In addition, it looks like the Ketelsen and Kruse family have other, multiple ties -- John and Francis (Kruse) Ploog had two children that were married to two children of Thomas Ketelsen, Dora's brother (Thomas was married to Selma Andresen). Vernon Ploog married Esther Ketelsen; Emma Ploog married Emil Ketelsen.
