Yes the search is using OCR - the papers have not been transcribed, so that's the only possible method.

OCR isn't perfect, but it sure beats having to read every issue cover to cover!

Another 'quirk' is hyphens at the end of a column sentence. ie:

Mr. Hender-
son went fish-
ing.

The OCR won't always find Henderson if it's been broken by a hyphen & on two different lines. Sometimes the only way to find something is to narrow the papers down to a manageable number and then read them cover to cover!
