In Clayton Co\IA, the descendants of Maria Dorthea Johanna BRUGGMAN(1818-1891.GER) and Johann Christian Theodor GENZ/GENTZ(1818-1868.GER)settled there after 1870 after leaving Mecklenburg in present day Germany.

One child might be a possiblity for your William GENTZ:

038-1-5 Heinrich Christian Wilhelm Friederich GENZ, b. November 29, 1854, Lehsten, Schwerin, Mecklenburg, Germany. Probably same H. GENZ arriving 1870 from Hamburg in NYC with mother and age 16. Nothing more is known of him.

Other siblings and cousins remained in Clayton Co. IA or scattered to Howard and Worth Counties in IA or North Dakota
