Elkader Register, Thur., 7 Jan. 1932.

Christian Joachim William Duede was born in Mecklenburg Schwerin, Germany, April 8, 1869, of Christian and Dorothea Duede. He was one of a family of three boys and three girls. He died at his home east of Garnavillo, on Buck Creek, on the evening of Jan. 2, 1932, aged 62 years, 8 months and 25 days.

He emigrated to America with his parents and family in November, 1884. Settlement was made at Colesburg. Mr. Duede worked as a laborer on numerous farms near Garnavillo several years after arriving in this country.

On Dec. 25, 1894. he was united in marriage with Miss Friedericka Behrends. This pair lived in Farmersburg township for three years, then at Postville for two years. This was followed by occupying a farm near Clayton for ten years. From that place they came to the farm which has since then been their home. Two children, Arno and Laura, were born to them.

Mr. Duede was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church while yet in Germany. He was reared in a Christian home and upheld the principals and faith taught him in his youth throughout his life.

Survivors are: his wife and two children, Arno and Laura, who occupy homes on the same farm; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Steinfadt, Colesburg, and Mrs. Marie Reinke, Elkader; one brother, William, Townsend, Mont., and one grandchild.

Funeral services were held at St. Paul's Ev. church, Garnavillo, on Tuesday p.m. Jan 5th, at 1:30 o'clock, the Rev. M. J. Harder, pastor, officiating. Interment was made at the new Garnavillo cemetery.
