Elkader-- Mrs. Hannah (Ortner) Garaghty, 65, of complications incident to advanced age Friday at St. Francis Hospital at Waterloo; daughter of John and Mary Ortner, born May 16, 1888; Feb. 4, 1920, was married to John Garaghty at Elkader, where she had since made her home; leaves three sons, John and James, Elkader, and Laurence, Minneapolis, Minn.; two sisters, Mrs. James Baish and Mrs. John Beula, Waterloo; two brothers, Andrew, Waterloo and Matt, Dunkerton; funeral, Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

Johanna Frances Garaghty was born in Barclay township, Blackhawk county, May 16, 1888, the daughter of John and Mary Ortner. She attended the rural schools in Barclay township.

On Feb. 4, 1920, she was married to John L. Garaghty in St. Francis church, Barclay township, near Dunkerton. They moved to a farm in Read township, five miles east of Elkader, which, with the exception of a few years in town, was her home until she died.

Three weeks ago Mrs. Garaghty was taken to St. Francis hospital in Waterloo where she died Christmas day at 11:15 a.m.

She is survived by her sons, John L. and James M., both at home, and one stepson, Lawrence J. Garaghty of Minneapolis; two brothers, Andrew L. Ortner, Waterloo, and Matt Ortner, Dunkerton; two sisters, (Lena) Mrs. James E. Baish and (Mary) Mrs. John Buelo, both of Dunkerton.

Her husband and parents preceded her in death.

Mrs. Garaghty was a member of St. Joseph's church, the Women's Guild and the Women's Catholic Order of Foresters.

Funeral services were held at St. Joseph's Catholic church Dec. 28, 1953, with burial in St. Joseph's cemetery.

Pallbearers were Virgil Uriell, Clarence Lynch, James Stence, Lavern Zittergruen, Ralph Kuehl and Walter Asmus.

Out of town relatives and friends in attendance were: Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Garaghty, Kathleen and Bob, Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. James Baish, Mrs. Helen Orvis, Mrs. Betty Thomas, Joe Ortner, Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Akin, Mr. and Mrs. Art Buelo, Mr. and Mrs. Hans Sorenson, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Connell, Ed Connell, Mayme Garaghty, all of Waterloo.; Mrs. Matt Ortner, Dick Ortner, Richard Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Dinnebier, Mr. and Mrs. Casper Ortner and family, Anna M. Wellner, Mrs. Barbara Wellner, Francis Wellner, all of Dunkerton; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Youngblut, Jesup and Mr. and Mrs. Milo Doser of St. Anthony, Iowa.
