Added by Audrey Haught, 9/6/2015:

Monday evening our citizens were horrified to learn that William Neill, of Bismarck had met with an accident which resulted in his death. From what we can learn, it seems that in company with his hired man he went out to his farm for a small load of hay, taking a wagon with a hog rack. While coming back Mr. Neill was driving and the hired man walked behind the load. In going downhill the load toppled and Mr. Neill was thrown to the ground striking on his head, and the wheels of the wagon passed over his head, fracturing his skull and injuring him so that he died within about five minutes.

He was one of the oldest citizens of this township and was highly respected by all. He had recently sold his farm and was intending to go the western part of the state and make his future home with a married daughter.

Deceased was born in the north of Ireland, and was about 62 years of age. He came to Clayton county about forty years ago, locating in this township. He was one of the organizers of the M.E. church in this township. An aged wife, two daughters and a son are left to mourn the death of a kind husband and father. The funeral will take place Thursday, at 11 o’clock am., from his late residence in Bismarck.
