Bessie Opperman Funeral services
Funeral services were held on Monday, November 27, 1995 at St. Sebald Lutheran Church, rural Strawberry Point for Bessie Alice Opperman, 93, Strawberry Point who died on November 23, 1995 at the Delaware County Memorial Hospital, Manchester. Pastor Jerome G. Godson officiated the service. Music was provided by Mary Knehans, organist and Everett Blobaum, soloist.

Bessie Alice Palmer Opperman was born on September 21, 1902 near Maynard, Iowa. Her parents were Georgia Chase Palmer and George Omer Palmer. Bessie has one brother, Vibert Earl Palmer. She attended rural country school and Strawberry Point High School. On August 21, 1918, she married Edgar Opperman. To this marriage was born five sons: H. Reginald (Bud), who is married to Eva and they live in Strawberry Point; Eugene, who is married to Betty and they live in South Holland, Illinois; Merle, who is married to Earlene and they live in Cedar Rapids; Burnell, who is married to Charlotte and they live in Oelwein; and Ivan, who is married to Rose Ann and they live in Omaha, Nebraska. Bessis is grandmother to fourteen grandchildren, twenty-two great grandschildren, and seven great great grandchildren. She is a faithful member of the American Legion, the Flint Ridge Community Club, and St. Sebald Lutheran. Bessie is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Vibert, and her husband, Edgar. Pallbearers were Alwin Zwanziger, Elmer Weger, Bill Hunt, Lowell Rodas, John MacTaggart, and John Wegner. Honorary pallbearers were Alvina Esch, Fern Moser, Bernice Jessen, Mildered Washburn, Laura Scheckel, Margaret Deuel, Lillian Vanter, Beryl Baumgartner, Gordetta Streicher and Lois Bockenstedt. Interment was in the Cass Cemetery, Strawberry Point, Iowa. Roberson Funeral Home was in charge of professional arrangements.
