Irvin Fred Meyer

Funeral services for Irvin Meyer were held Saturday, March 1, 1986 at the Giard Methodist Church, Giard, Iowa with Rev. Marion Bloodworth officiating. Pallbearers were Bruce E. Meyer, Eugene C. Meyer, John C. Meyer, John M. Meyer, Kenneth I. Meyer, Robert A. Meyer, William G. Meyer, Sr., and William G. Meyer, Jr. Burial was in the Giard Cemetery. Schultz's Funeral Home was in charge of services.

Irvin Fred Meyer was born October 26, 1901 at Giard, Iowa, the son of William and Matilda (Hartwick) Meyer. Irvin had to leave high school after the tenth grade to work the family farm, he was a member of the Giard Methodist Church, Farm Bureau, Dairy Shrine. On December 28, 1927 he was united in marriage to Delia Brandt at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Postville. To this union two sons were born. Irvin has been interested in milking shorthorn cattle since 1914. He and his son Maurice are recognized for having one of the finest herds in the nation. They had the "Gold Mine" prefix and sold to customers in 40 states, Canada, West Indies. In 1964 they were named Iowa Blue Ribbon Farm Family, and in 1975 Irvin received the distinguished Dairyman Award. He was Pres. of the school board and Northeast Iowa Farm Business Assn., and director of several Co-ops. He was active until October of 1985 and he died Feb. 26, 1986 at the Great River Care Center, McGregor, Iowa.

Preceding him in death were his parents and 4 brothers, Gilbert, Otto, Ewald and Clifton.

He is survived by his wife Delia, his sons, Maurice of McGregor, Stanley of Great Falls, Mont., his daughters-in-law Bonnie and Jane, 4 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
