CLARA ANN NEUHAUS

Clara Ann Neuhaus, 78, of Monona died Friday, September 16, 2005, at Central Community Hospital in Elkader, following a sudden illness.

She was born on February 1, 1927, the daughter of Louis and Clara (Harter) Berns.

She was raised on the family farm near Garnavillo, and received her education at St. Joseph's Catholic School in Garnavillo.

Clara was united in marriage to Alvin Neuhaus at Garnavillo on June 7, 1949. After farming near Garnavillo for several years, they moved to a farm north of Farmersburg where they farmed until 1989. At that time they moved to their new home in Monona, where Clara has lived until the time of her death.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and St. Patrick's Rosary Society for many years. Her first and foremost interest was that of her family. She truly enjoyed being with all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Playing games and cards, along with cooking and taking care of her flowers were enjoyable times for her.

Surviving Clara are her nine children, Betty (Loren) Gottschalk of Walker, Jean (Tom) Farrell of Prairie du Chien, Tom (Sheila) Neuhaus of Monona, Ann (Kim) Fields of Grafton, Paul Neuhaus (Billie Knepper) of Pittsburgh, Pa., Jerry (Deb) Neuhaus of Monona, Virginette (Steve) Connor of DeWitt, Mary (Mike) Jaynes of Prairie du Chien, and Al (Jody) Neuhaus of Hiawatha; twenty-six grandchildren and step-grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Louis Berns of Monona and Aloys (Rosie) Berns of Garnavillo; three sisters, Laura Sudmeier of New Vienna, Mary Lou Krapfl of New Vienna and Helene Sudmeier of Dubuque; four sisters-in-law, Germaine Foxen of Luxemburg, Delores Neuhaus of New Vienna, Vera Moorman of Petersburg and Betty Berns of Prairie du Chien; along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.Clara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Alvin Neuhaus, infant daughter, Teresa Marie Neuhaus, son-in-law, Larry Ihde, brothers, Peter Berns Sr. and Roland Berns; a sister, Claudine McLane; sisters-in-law, Virginia Berns, Lorraine Berns, Marie Berns and Wilma Berns and brothers-in-law, Roger Krapfl, Jim Sudmeier, George Sudmeier, Herbert Goedken, Loraine McLane, Bernard Neuhaus, William Moorman and Emmett Foxen.

Due to construction at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Monona, the funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 20, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona, with Rev. Richard Gaul and Rev. John Moran. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Monona. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. on Monday, at Leonard Funeral Home in Monona, and after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Casket Bearers: Erin Ihde, Chad Ihde, Nicholas Ihde, Jeremy Neuhaus, Ian Fields, Justin Neuhaus, Joshua Neuhaus, Troy Connor, Tyler Connor and Dustin Jaynes.Music By: Linda Bacon and Josh Grau.
