Selma Mielke

Funeral services for Selma Mielke were held Tuesday, July 7, 1992 at Garden City United Methodist Church in Monona. Rev. Gary Dobbins officiated. Organist was Ric Benzing and soloist was Carole Gerdes. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Nile Kruse, Jeff Kruse, Tim Sostak, Lance Mielke, Wayne Mielke, Jerry Thornton, and Trampus Thornton. Schultz's Funeral home in Monona was in charge of services.

Selma M. Elet Mielke was born at Watson, Iowa, December 25, 1896, to parents Fred and Caroline Meier Elet. She was baptized and attended catechism at Watson Evangelical Church.

On May 28, 1914 Selma was united in marriage to Otto Mielke. The couple lived in Rockford, Ill. for three years and then made their home in Watson. In 1945 they moved to Monona. Selma worked at Spook Cave from 1955 to 1975.

Selma died Saturday, July 4, 1992 at the Postville Good Samaritan Center in Postville, Iowa. She had been a resident there for 7 years. She was a member of the Garden City United Methodist Church. She was active in church work and served as janitor and communion steward. She was a member of United Methodist Women and Northern Clayton County Garden Club.

Preceding her in death were he parents; her husband, Otto, who died December 3, 1957; and one sister, Mabel Franck.

Surviving are two sons and their wives, Raymond and Helen Mielke and Gerald and Madonna Mielke, all of Monona; four grandchildren, Joyce Kruse, Dean and Wayne Mielke and Sandra Thornton; seven great grandchildren, Jeff Kruse, Julie Sostak, Trampus Thornton; Lance, Marcia, Candy and Angela Mielke, and four great great grandchildren, Jessica and Jon Kruse, Jacob Sostak and Michael Mielke.
