CYRIL PLATTEN

Cyril Platten, age 65, of Harpers Ferry, Iowa, died Thursday afternoon, January 15, 2004, at his home in rural Harpers Ferry. Funeral services were held Monday, January 19 at the Wexford Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Fr. Louis Trzil and Fr. Donald Hawes officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Thornburg-Hanson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Cyril was born in Guttenberg, Iowa, August 13, 1938, to Peter and Julitta (Harter) Platten. He was married to Beverly Knapp November 17, 1959, at St. Mary's Church in McGregor, Iowa.

Cyril spent the majority of his life logging. He also was a milk hauler and butter maker at the Luana Creamery, a carpenter, bulldozer operator, and farmer. However, he truly enjoyed his time spent in the woods logging. Cyril was a man with many goals and a man who could accomplish those goals. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, telling stories, gambling, and visiting with his friends.

Cyril is survived by his wife, Beverly of Harpers Ferry; five children, Jan (Lee) Dayton of Belle Plaine, Iowa; Gary Platten of Harpers Ferry; Jim (Gina) Platten of Indianapolis, Ind., Kevin (Paula) Platten of Bloomfield, Iowa, and Theresa (Dan) Gries of Marion, Iowa; six grandchildren; six siblings, Jerome (Kay) Platten of Steuben, Wis., Anna Mae (Louis) Burkle of Harpers Ferry, Bernie (Ben) Jones of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Serenus (Ronna) Platten of Cedar Rapids, and Ramona (Bill) Jones of Harpers Ferry. He was preceded in death by his parents.
