ARLO ALVIN HAUGHT

Arlo Alvin Haught entered into eternal rest at the age of 71 at his residence in Brownsville, Texas. He was born on June 20, 1933 in Clayton County, Iowa to Mr. Edward Lyman Haught and Mrs. Adelia Gerloff Haught who preceded him in death. One brother, Lyle Haught; and two sisters, Marie Lamphier and Louise Lamphier who also preceded him in death.

Arlo Haught spent 17 years in the service of his country. He made history when the helicopter unit he was in was the first to fly all the way to the North Pole, with supplies for the weather station. While on this mission he was introduced to Warner Vaughn, the famous scientist who was responsible for the first nuclear submarine, The Naultilis.

Mr. Haught taught at Cummings Middle School from 1984 till 1998 when he retired. He had a total of 26 years in teaching of which he loved very much.

Mr. Haught is survived by his loving wife of 50 years of marriage, Gwendolyn Miller Haught; four sons, David Haught of Iowa, Edward Haught (Wendy), Michael Haught both of Brownsville and Kenneth Haught (Sheri) of Iowa; and one daughter, Theresa Myers of Brownsville. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Brandon, Daniel, Michelle, Jenna, Jessica, Justin, Brandley, Kaelyn and Carter; one brother, Lloyd Haught of Manchester, Iowa; three sisters, Imogene Pirillo of Oelwien, Iowa, Vergie Havig of Mason City, Iowa and Ivanelle Bushaw of Strawberry Point, Iowa.

A 4 p.m. funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1914 Barnard.

Mr. Haught will be buried in Elkader, Iowa at a later date.

Funeral arrangements are under the directions of Guerra Funeral Home of Brownsville, 3955 Coffee Port Road.
