Henry Schroeder Last Rites Held

Henry John Schroeder, the son of John Henry Schroeder and Mary (nee Tuecke), was born on June 17, 1885, on a farm south of Monona. He was baptized at the Ceres Lutheran Church by Pastor Sommerladt on Sept. 5, 1885 and on March 26, 1899 was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. John's Lutheran Church, Guttenberg, after instruction given by Pastor Janzig. He received his education in the rural school of this community.

On March 5, 1913, he was united in marriage with Cordula Tewes. They farmed northeast of Monona until 1944 when they retired to Monona. Mrs. Schroeder passed away in 1959. They both were members of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona.

Henry had been confined to his home and limited in his activities for the last several years. On Dec. 17 of last year he was taken to the hospital. He participated in devotions when his pastors called and always expressed his deep appreciation. Just several weeks ago he received Holy Communion. He passed away on Wed. morning, March 2 at the age of 80 years, 8 months, and 13 days.

He is survived by two daughters; Eileen, Mrs. Henry Philipp (sic) of Monona, and Florence at home; four sisters, Mrs. Orville Wirkler, Mrs. Rudolf Garms, Mrs. John Luepker, and Mrs. Walter Duwe, all of Monona; and two grandsons, Wayne and John Phillip.

Preceeding him in death were his parents, his wife, one brother, Rudolph Schroeder, and two sisters, Katie Schroeder and Mrs. Minnie Lembke.
