George Washington Pixler 1861-1925

From the 1925 Postville newspaper:

Mr. George W. Pixler quietly passed away in the presence of his family circle in Grand Meadow township, Sunday evening, August 2, 1925. He had been in ill health for a number of months. His funeral services were held from the Postville Community church, Wednesday, August the 5th, the Rev. J. B. Ackman, minister of the Methodist church of Monona, being in charge of the funeral services.

Mr. George W. Pixler, the son of the deceased James M. and Eliza Pixler, was born February 17th 1861. He was born, reared and educated in Grand Meadow township. In this same community he also established his own home and developed his success and built up his county influence. He was considered one of the prominent and successful Clayton County farmers. He was held in high esteem and honor by those who knew him best. Being a highly respected citizen he was honored with various offices of trust, one of which was the county Supervisorship of Clayton county.

He was united in marriage to Marie E. Harmon of Viroca [Viroqua], Wisconsin, on January 30th, 1884. To this happy union were born eight children, of which two sons preceded the father in death, Lester C. Pixler having passed away September 10, 1903 and Ernest E. Pixler January 17, 1918.

Mr. Pixler was known as a good neighbor, an honored and respected citizen who was honest in his dealings, and a devoted husband and loving father. He will be sincerely missed by the members of his family circle and his friends. He leaves to mourn his departure his grief stricken wife and life's companion, Mrs. Marie E. Pixler and his six children: James R. Pixler, Ina A. Schultz, Roy R. Pixler, Ralph E. Pixler, George F. Pixler, and Gerald H. Pixler, ten grandchildren and one remaining sister, Mrs. Margaret Brownmiller of Cherokee, Iowa, as well as other relatives and a host of friends.

"When we asunder part,
It gives us inward pain,
But we shall still be joined in heart,
And hope to meet again."
