Vern K. Koth
Vern K. Koth, a resident of the Good Samaritan Home during the last year, died July 13 at Community Memorial Hospital, Postville.
Services were last Wednesday at Garden City United Methodist Church, Monona, and were conducted by Rev. Dean Shelly. Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona, was in charge of arrangements.
He was born June 10, 1893 to Herman and Helen Henkes Koth in Wagner Township in Clayton county. He attended rural school near Monona. He was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist faith.
On March 11, 1915 he married Tresa Martha Ames. They had 3 sons and 1 daughter. He farmed in the Monona area until 1944. He then retired to a home in Monona and worked as a carpenter for 20 years. Vern and Tresa celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. She died Feb. 10, 1979.
He was a member of Odd Fellows for many years.
Preceding him in death were his wife, one son Donald, who died in 1944 in combat, 2 brothers, Roy and Ross and 3 sisters, Erva Garms, Flossie Ulish and Ruth Pufahl.
Surviving are 2 sons, Foster of Monona and Ray of Garnavillo, one daughter, Mrs. Marjorie Anderson of Clermont, 6 grandchildren, Curtis Olson, Leslie Olson, Neala Koth, Nancy Haese, Chet Koth and Karen Prunkhard, and 11 great-grandchildren.
